Meet our Awesome Interns!

Category: Downtown Blog

We made some changes here around the FDBA toward the end of August...

We hired interns!

Since we’ve loved learning about them every day, we figured you’d love it as well!

Chiara Minneci

Chiara Minneci is currently a junior at NAU studying Strategic Communication, emphasizing in Public Relations and Advertising, as well as minoring in Creative Media and Film. She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and is a major foodie, movie watcher, and people lover. A fun fact about her is she has two rescue chihuahuas who both only have three legs!

Q: What do you do for the Flagstaff Downtown Business Alliance?

A: I am a marketing and social media intern. I help out when it comes to all things creative and fun around downtown! That includes posting on the downtown Flagstaff social media sites, writing blog posts for the website, and putting together events for the community, like scavenger hunts.

Q: What brought you to Flagstaff?

A: I am originally from Phoenix and am major home-body. But I knew I wanted to go to college somewhere new and different, but I didn’t want to be too far away from home or my family. Plus I am a sucker for cute small towns, four seasons, and friendly people, all of which Flagstaff offers!

Q: What do you love about Flagstaff?

A: I love a lot about Flagstaff, but what I love the most has to be the community. There is just something about the people in this mountain town that makes my heart happy. Through school and spending time immersed in the city, I have made so many special friends and connections here. Flagstaff has really become my home away from home.

Q: What are your favorite places Downtown?

A: This is probably the hardest question! For food, my favorite place downtown is either Swaddee Thai or Fratellis. For shopping, my favorite store is PJ Chilcottage. For coffee/tea, I love Macy’s and Rendezvous.

Q: What is your favorite animal? If you could have it, what would you name it?

A: Dogs are my favorite animal! I like the name Milo for a boy and Indy for a girl.

Q: What weird food combination do you really enjoy?

A: This isn’t a weird combination, but I LOVE spicy food. If there are crushed red peppers, jalapenos, or salsa, I will add it to my meal. Everything's better with a little kick to it!

Q: What are you interested in that most people aren't?

A: I am super interested in the behind the scenes of films. After every movie I watch, I have to go research the whole cast, where it was filmed, and the fun facts about it.

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

A: I would do more of everything! More time with friends and family, more time to create, more time to study, and more time to travel and see the world.

Katie Rapp

Katie is a junior at NAU from Mesa, Arizona. She is pursuing a degree in Strategic Communication with a double emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising and a minor in Communication Studies. Katie is passionate about animals, travel and coffee. Although she loves to travel, she hadn’t flown on a plane until May of 2018. Her fun fact is that she can say the alphabet backward!

Q: What do you do for the Flagstaff Downtown Business Alliance?

A: I am a marketing intern for the DBA! I help with the design of event flyers, writing press releases, blog posts and social media posts. For the month of October, I’ve been posting every day on our Instagram page (@downtownflagstaff). I’ve also been working with Chiara to plan a scavenger hunt around Downtown for the NAU Peer Jacks.

Q: What brought you to Flagstaff?

A: Well, I wanted to get out of the valley to be on my own and go to college. So, I initially came for school and the nicer weather.

Q: What do you love about Flagstaff?

A: It’s cliche, but I love the weather in Flagstaff. I love having actual seasons and watching the trees turn different colors, watching it snow and then watching the flowers grow back in the spring. I also love how friendly (and dog-friendly!!) and inclusive Flagstaff is. I believe that others can be themselves and it’s acceptable and that is super awesome.

Q: What are your favorite places Downtown?

A: Firecreek Coffee for a yummy coffee and a great study spot, Martanne’s for delicious food and Salt and Peak for adorable decorations and great smelling candles.

Q: What is your favorite animal? If you could have it, what would you name it?

A: My favorite animal (besides a cat) is a fox. If I could have one, I would name it Aspen.

Q: What weird food combination do you really enjoy?

A: I love mac and cheese with barbeque sauce!

Q: What are you interested in that most people aren't?

A: I have an interest in hand-lettering and calligraphy. I’m not super great at it, but I always practice and try to make my handwriting better!

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

A: I would probably travel more or volunteer at a local animal shelter.
