June has officially begun which means downtown will be buzzing with people and activities! If you’ve been wondering what to do this month downtown, don’t worry - we’ve got you covered. There’s something going on almost every day throughout the month of June!  

 

This month kicks off with First Friday downtown on June 1st. There will be the usual art walk, and performances by Canyon Movement Company, Capoeira Amizade Flagstaff- Centro Capoeira Angola OuroVerde, and Rock Nine from 6-8pm on Heritage Square. In addition, Local First Friday will be taking place at MartAnne’s Burrito Palace starting at 6pm. Topics will include The Market of Dreams, and Fuerza Local. Hear from Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans, JB Dewitt, the City of Flagstaff and Local First Arizona during the event. It’s the perfect time to engage in conversations that offer easy changes to the way you spend, giving you the power to impact your community. 

 

The 9th Annual Hullabaloo Festival is taking place the first Saturday and Sunday in June (the 2nd & 3rd) at Wheeler Park in downtown Flagstaff! On Saturday the event runs from 10am  to 9pm, and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. Hullabaloo is a community festival that produces many activities such as featuring giant puppets, a bike parade, costume contests, live music, a huge kids area, local vendors, microbrews, and more! It’s a great event for locals’ and visitors, and all ages are welcome!

 

Movies on the Square is back for another summer season! The movies kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a showing of Disney Pixar’s Coco. The movies will run every Saturday throughout summer, until Labor Day weekend. The event starts at 4pm with live entertainment and activities, and movies begin at dusk! Make sure to bring warm gear such as blankets, pillows, and PJ’s since it gets chilly at night. Also, don’t worry about bringing food. Fratelli’s pizza, popcorn, and other sweet treats will be available at the concession stands. Come downtown and enjoy a movie under the starts with your friends and family!

 

Another local favorite that is taking place during June is Yoga on the Lawn. This event takes place every Wednesday at 6pm, and every Saturday at 9am. Holly White will teach Wednesday yoga, and on Saturday’s different instructors from downtown studios will be teaching the yoga practice. All classes have a recommended $5 drop in rate, and are open to all ages and all abilities. Bring a your mat and a friend and experience yoga in the middle of beautiful downtown!

Looking for something fun and spontaneous to do? Attend Adult Prom at The Orpheum Theater on June 16th at 9pm! Prom night will include drink specials, a photo booth, and of course the announcement of Prom King and Queen! Prom will be hosted by MC Golightly, and music will be provided by DJ DISCOKITCHEN. People are encouraged to dress fun, funky or formal, and no street wear is allowed. You have to be 21 and over, and general admission is $8.50. Grab a date or some friends and re-live your prom days!

Locals’ Night will be taking place this month on June 19th, in downtown Flagstaff. In addition to all the amazing specials from local downtown businesses, this month’s spotlight experience is a FREE chalk painting class at the Flagstaff General Store! Come downtown from 3-7pm and enjoy all the great deals from your favorite downtown businesses. You don’t want to miss out!

Another event taking place downtown all summer long is the Summer Concert Series, produced by the Heritage Square Trust! This event runs Friday evenings throughout summer from 6-8pm, beginning Memorial Day Weekend, and ends Labor Day Weekend. Join us at Heritage Square for FREE, family-friendly entertainment provided by Flagstaff's best local artists!

Meet Me Downtown Flagstaff is another weekly event that’s happening throughout June. MMDF is a free, weekly social walk/run that brings adults and families together in a vibrant event that showcases downtown Flagstaff as a prime location for healthy activities. The event is every Wednesday, rain or shine, starting at 5:15 pm in Heritage Square. After the walk/run, there is a closing ceremony at 6:30 where we hand out awards and have a free raffle for restaurants and other business gift certificates!

Last but certainly not least, a weekly event you have to check out in June is the Flagstaff Community Market. This market is local and regional producers only farmers market featuring FRESH fruits, vegetables, jams, baked goods, honey, free range beef, antibiotic and hormone free chicken and pork, fresh flowers, hot sauce, herbs, spices, prepared foods and so much more! This is what Flagstaff is all about. The Farmers Market takes place every Sunday at the City Hall Parking lot, from 8am-12pm. It is a must-do if you’re ever in downtown Flagstaff on a Sunday morning!
