Calling all ladies!

Formerly known as Chicks in Charge, the FWLN is a networking group with an emphasis on mentoring and community service.

This month, Gwendolyn Waring.

"I am a naturalist, writer, painter, and mother-grandmother, based in Flagstaff AZ. I grew up living in many parts of the US, with long stays in Europe and Panama.

I earned a PhD in biology from NAU, studying the evolution of herbivores on creosote bush. I also studied herbivores associated with agaves for graduate work at UofA. Later I conducted ecosystem research in the Mohave Desert, in Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, San Juan, the Peaks and other cool places in the Southwest.

In the midst of graduate work, I was asked to write a popular article about creosote bush for the Desert Botanical Garden’s magazine. Writing and thinking about science—ecology—that way really changed things for me. I have been writing and thinking about science as a naturalist ever since.

I also paint regional landscapes, mainly in oils. I am deeply in love with the beauty of our landscapes".

The discussion will start at 5pm.
